Recruitment 2013
Go Greek!
The ladies of DG, Kappa, and Theta are the best around. Why? Greek women hold themselves to high standards of integrity, seek meaningful friendships, and strive to create a supportive community, a true sisterhood. We balance academics and activities with the finer things in life: friendship and philanthropy. Ask any one of us and we'll tell you why going Greek is one of the best decisions we've made in our college careers!
Why DG is special
We DGs are known for our warmth, enthusiasm, and fun! Delta Gammas are leaders all over campus, involved in practically every activity, and no matter what your field of study or area of interest there is sure to be a sister by your side. We prioritize philanthropy, with monthly service events and fundraisers for vision impairment. Most of all, our sisterhood provides unconditional support that continues after graduation through our close-knit alumnae network. Delta Gamma is a sisterhood for life!
FAQs
What is Recruitment? How is it different from rush?
Recruitment is the correct term for the process sometimes referred to as "rush". We want to distinguish the mutual selection process of Recruitment, where the preferences of the girls interested in sororities is taken into account along with the sorority's preference, from the punch-like process that is often associated with the term "rush".
What happens during Recruitment?
Potential New Members (you!) get to spend a week meeting the members of all the sororities on campus during Recruitment! Recruitment is designed to be a mutual selection process, where where the preferences of the girls interested in sororities is taken into account along with the sorority's preference. This makes it very important that Potential New Members critically evaluate each sorority and feel out where they're most at home.
Who is Gracey Greek?
The ladies of Harvard Panhel, embodied as a fictitious Facebook character! Gracey Greek will provide you with updates on Recruitment, as well as what the three sororities are up to. If you haven't already, friend her on Facebook!
What is it like to be in a sorority at Harvard?
As a member of a sorority, you become friends with incredible women you probably would have never met otherwise. You get to know upperclassmen, ladies who can help you navigate the treacherous waters of classes (and the job search later on). You have a community of sisters always ready to bring you coffee during an all-nighter in Lamont, loan you a pair of cute shoes, or explore that new restaurant you've been dying to check out. You have opportunities to give back to the community through service while bonding with new friends.
What do DGs do together for fun?
The better question is, what don't DGs do together for fun?! Every semester, we have date events and formals that are second to none (past venues include the Seaport Hotel and the Franklin Park Zoo). Our sisterhood events include apple picking, ice skating, picnics along the Charles, movie nights, and study breaks complete with Stressbusters. We also organize group outings to on-campus performances, including acapella groups, dance shows, Eleganza, and Hasty Pudding Ladies Night. DGs love getting off campus too - whether it's shopping in Boston, a trip to the ballet, or a Red Sox game, there's always something to do with your sisters!
What is the DG space like at Harvard?
DG was the first sorority to obtain a property in the square. Our space, The Cove, features homey amenities including:
- a full kitchen, for baking and late-night snacks
- a large dining table, perfect for meals and study sessions
- a big screen TV equipped with cable
- comfy chairs and couches for vegging out
- an office and storage area
- a patio for enjoying the nice weather
Access to the Cove is limited to Delta Gammas only, so you are sure to find an open seat and a friendly face when you drop by!
What are my time and financial commitments as a DG?
New members are required to attend weekly 1-hour new member meetings. In addition, there is one required event a week. The required event may be a chapter meeting, philanthropy event, Panhellenic event, or a study break (to name a few). For a better idea, check out our calendar page. New member dues are $665 for the first semester to cover one-time initiation fees. Current member dues are under $450 per semester.
Does DG haze?
Absolutely not. Delta Gamma has a zero-tolerance policy on hazing. After Bid Day, you will be welcomed into our sisterhood with open arms... and lots of gifts!
